Chinaberry Wood Slabs
The Chinaberry tree originates from large portions of Asia. It has a distinctive canopy that’s large and ample, making it a desired shade tree. When originally introduced, Chinaberry was seen as a blessing with a very fast growth rate regardless of the condition of the soil. Now it appears that the same rapid growth has made it an invasive species. Chinaberry is a beautiful wood whose color ranges from pink-orange to reddish brown. Its grain is coarse and occasionally interlocked, though mostly straight. The large pores in its grain make it difficult to achieve a smooth finish. It glues, planes, and cuts very well thanks to its straight grain. In Florida, Chinaberry is plentiful and is cut down to make room for other species or because its berries have become a nuisance. Instead of letting the logs end up as wood chips, we’re gathering them and making perfect slabs and turning material for woodworkers.
