Leadwood Slabs
A South African native tree, Leadwood is a heavy, hard, close-grained wood. Its heartwood is a beautiful, exotic dark brown that’s very sought after. Leadwood has large pores with rich, reddish brown streaks that darken with age. If you’ve seen the beautiful empty branches in the African savannah, you’ve seen Leadwood. The grain pattern of Leadwood often shows irregularities, and knots are common. Aside from this, Leadwood’s texture is fine and uniform, perfect for a smooth finish. Sharp tools must be used to work this wood and avoid tear outs. The density of the wood is a valuable characteristic that extends its life but can also make it difficult to mold and shape.
