Cypress Wood Slabs
Cypress is a large, slow-growing, long-lived tree typically reaching heights of 60 to 75 feet. It can live to be 500 years old. It has a peculiar root that grows vertically and is known as a “Cypress knee”, which can be used for a number of applications requiring a living look. It grows naturally in swampy areas that are flooded several months out of the year. Bald Cypress is the state tree of Louisiana and is an icon of southern swamplands. Nicknamed the “wood eternal” because of the heartwood’s resistance to decay, Bald Cypress is used for heavy construction, including docks, warehouses, boats, and bridges, but it’s also used for general millwork and interior trim. It has a natural insect repellent known as cypressene which makes it suitable for exterior applications without any extra treatments.
