White Oak Wood Slabs
White Oak is strong, beautiful, rot-resistant, easy to work with, and economical, representing a great value to woodworkers. It’s no wonder that the wood is so often used in cabinet and furniture making. White Oak is the state tree of Connecticut, Illinois, and Maryland. Connecticut’s state quarter was minted with a picture and inscription of a famous White Oak tree, the Charter Oak. White oak varies in color from light tan to pale yellow-brown with a pinkish tinge. It is similar to European oak. It is straight-grained with characteristic silver grain in quartersawn wood and a medium to coarse texture. White Oak is somewhat more figured than Red Oak due to longer rays. Suitable for furniture, cabinetry, joinery, heavy construction, parquet and strip flooring, ladder rungs, plywood, veneers, paneling, railroad ties, shakes, and shingles.
